However, his illicit operations came to a halt when a gang, armed by Jack, targeted and eliminated a Mafia heir. Consequently, the criminal underworld placed a bounty on his head, compelling Jack to escape to Micronesia, where he acquired a used boat from a government auction. He shifted gears, establishing a new venture that involved ferrying tourists and diving enthusiasts around the local region.
In due course, a journalist named Valerie Cortez approached Jack with a substantial sum of money, seeking his assistance to transport her to a remote archipelago known as “Jacutan.” With some apprehension, Jack agreed to the proposition. The game unfolds as Jack and Val reach Jacutan. After Val embarks on a solo jet ski excursion, Jack’s boat falls victim to an attack by UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Forced to seek refuge within a decaying Japanese aircraft carrier, Jack stumbles upon a communication device and establishes contact with a mysterious individual identifying himself as “Doyle.” Doyle unveils Val’s true identity as an undercover CIA agent on a mission to rescue Jack.
It turns out that Doyle has been striving to expose the sinister experiments of a deranged scientist named Dr. Krieger, who is developing a serum designed to enhance physical capabilities and awaken latent animalistic traits in subjects. Under Doyle’s guidance, Jack undertakes the mission to locate and rescue Val, who has been captured by Krieger’s hired mercenaries. While attempting to protect Val, Jack himself is apprehended by Krieger’s right-hand man, former Apartheid Colonel Richard Crowe. He is subsequently presented before Krieger, who admires Jack’s resourcefulness and resilience, envisioning him as an ideal test subject.
Jack is subjected to an injection of Krieger’s serum and is slated for transfer to an observation area once he recovers. Unexpectedly, Jack’s recovery is premature, and he manages to escape, discovering that he now possesses “feral abilities” including heightened speed, night vision, and a formidable melee combat prowess. However, these newfound powers counterbalanced by an implanted device designed to regulate the serum’s effects and enable the use of specialized weapons against Jack. Guided by Doyle’s instructions, Jack embarks on a journey to reunite with him and have the implant removed.
In a last-ditch effort, Krieger attempts to manipulate the Alphas against Jack, only to realize that they now regard Jack as their leader, owing to his victory over Crowe. The mutants turn against Krieger, resulting in his demise. They perceive him as a threat to Jack and permit his escape as the volcano erupts. With the volcanic eruption in progress, Jack boards a Black Hawk helicopter piloted by Val and Doyle. Promising to compensate him for his loss by acquiring a new boat, they take it a step further, presenting Jack with a mysterious metal case. As the helicopter soars away, Jack opens the case, laughing enigmatically at its contents.
