It is a real time tactical and strategy action and adventure fighting video game in the Gears Of War Games series. The gameplay is similar to the earlier released game in the series. Meanwhile the players play the game as Marcus or Dominic in the campaign mode. Both the characters has different character abilities and weapons which they use during their combats and mission. Meanwhile players also can collect and use the weapons that they get from the enemies after killing them. Meanwhile along with the old weapons from the series there also five new weapons added to the game.

Campaign mode allow the player to complete different mission included in the game.
Each of the mission represent different difficulty levels like normal, casual and hardcore. Meanwhile, Gears of War 2 multiplayer gameplay mode allow upto 10 players to join and complete missions online or locally in coop mode. There are ten maps added to play for the multiplayer gameplay mode. These includes Blood Drive, hail, One Day, Stasis, Ruin, Security, Avalanchi and jacinato.
